l'Espoir© OBJECTIVES - Making the light bulbs has become an important income generating activity for approximatly 30 South-African women. They earn two to three times the avarage salary in the townships, with an artistic and less time and stress-consuming activity, which is so important when you are living with HIV/AIDS. The event will garrantee months of work for them, and allow the training of newcomers. More than 30000 lightbulbs have been produced up to now. |

Aside from that, funds raised by the association finance the program: "Espoir pour les townships". This program is detailed in the attached news letter (> Download PDF newsletter) It includes: - the training of women living with HIV/AIDS as counsellors by the Desmund Tutu HIV Fundation. Counsellors are community members providing individual care at the clinic and at the patient’s home. They co-ordinate weekly treatment readiness workshops and manage education sessions for patients taking Anti-retroviral treatments. (This activity generates annual incomes for 10 otheer women) - Funding of 20 anti-retroviral treatments (for one year) at the Desmond Tutu HIV Centre, in anticipation of the government funding. - participation in the opening of a secure facility in a newly developped township, and financing of transportation expenses for monthly meetings and visits in hospitals for the women. |
