New weave Project - Piggs Peak - Swaziland.

A project developped by Designing Hope Africa

Kuzela is an income generating activity developped in Swaziland by Designing Hope Africa since July 2004. Kuzela is based in Piggs Peak, one of the rare towns of this small rural country, known for its terrible HIV/AIDS infection rate, with more than 40% of the population.

Kuzela targets two different group of women.

-Support Group

The main team consists of members of the support group at the hospital.
They are all positive, and most of them need this activity to raise their chidren and look after their families.
A collection has been put together for Ithemba, with both decoration and fashion applications.

-Malanda
A second group works from the Malanda Community Hall, a building that was refurbished by Desiging Hope Africa, in order to develop artistic events together with awareness actions.
Training are organised regularely, and special projects will be developped in the coming months, including the weaving of a huge mural on the theme "I Love You Positive or Negative" made of hundreds of individual squares in different colors and materials.

Home based activity

A special focus was to work with simple techniques and simple looms, so that women living in rural areas could be involved in this project, working from their home.

Frames looms are made locally by another group of men from the community.
They are small and easy to cary back home.
